Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Greater Manchester’s Passenger Transport Executive.
On 31 October/1 November 2009, the Museum of Transport’s ‘SELNEC 40’ weekend brought together buses that were acquired, or bought new, by SELNEC or Greater Manchester PTE. Based at the Museum, the event featured displays from the Museum’s extensive archive collection; and free bus services to and from Victoria station and the Selnec Preservation Society’s display held the same weekend at Sportcity next to Manchester City’s football ground.
This video tells the story of the event, from opening up the doors in the morning till cleaning up and switching off the lights at night. In between the video watches the buses coming and going, records some of the human side of running a big event, and takes a ride on two of the Museum’s buses.
